Ensenada, Mexico Mission Trip 2008

As the summer months were fast approaching, our youth was discussing one Sabbath morning at church how it would be nice to go on another mission trip to Mexico. We all agreed that we should begin praying and asking the Lord to open the door for another opportunity to serve in Mexico. It was our desire to find another service project that we could go and volunteer as a team. We discussed this idea with our youth pastor, and after some time we were able to find a project in Ensenada, Mexico. Our team of 12 teens and 3 adults began planning and fundraising. Soon it was time for us to go. We jumped in the can and with much excitement, headed down to Mexico. The Lord was leading us and prepared the way for a smooth border crossing and a safe arrival. We were greeted warmly by our host family. We had a great evening meal together sharing our road trip adventures. After our meal, we unpacked the van and settled down for the night.

The following day our work consisted of making forms for concrete. Digging trenches for the water and sewage pipes. Hot mopping the septic tank and making it waterproof. Once we completed the concrete forms, the following day we began to sift the sand and prepare for concrete mixing. It was a fine science to mix just the right amount of rock, sand, concrete, and water. Overall it was a 2 day job to complete the concrete. Also we were able to install the new water and sewage pipes. The following day, our team of volunteers backfilled the trenches. The Lord provided the strength to move forward with the project. He blessed our efforts and provided just the right people to come along on this mission trip to get the work completed. We saw how this construction mission trip helped us to learn so much about ourselves and to develop new skills.

Our team of volunteers were able to interact with the children and spend time with them. We wanted to have a positive impact on their lives and share with them the Love of Jesus. We had the opportunity to visit some families in their homes. Spend time together interacting and sharing that which was most pressing for us in our hearts. As we visited various families, we saw truly how great the need was. It was our hearts desire to help as many as we could in any way that we could. Our teens that came with us were so touched by this experience that they gave up their own pocket money so that we could cover the needs of the people. It was a tremendous blessing to be a part of a team of volunteers who came to serve and to help the needy. I pray that we will not forget those who are neglected and underprivileged. May the Lord continue to move upon the hearts of men and women to dedicate themselves in serving others.  Maranatha!
