ASI & Salt Outreach Mission Trip 2022

“For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in…” Matthew 25:35. July 31 - August 3 Build and Restore International partnered with SALT Outreach Ministry to share Christ's love by serving the unsheltered in downtown Orlando, FL.

We hit the road running as we arrived in Orlando on Sunday afternoon. We went straight into the mission trip orientation at the Christian Community Center where we would be serving. The next day, together with eight volunteers, we were able to install sheetrock and work on mudding/taping the newly completed wall. Other volunteers were directly involved in serving the needs of the unsheltered community. Thoughtful pre-packaged care kits were assembled to distribute to those in need.

We were blessed to meet the maintenance man with whom we bonded and built a friendship. It was a joy to support his efforts and help restore the building he has been maintaining alone for over 12 years. The needs are way beyond what one person can accomplish, but we were inspired as we saw his dedication and commitment to serve the needs of the unsheltered.

"The angel of the Lord encamps (fences) around those who fear him, and he delivers them." Psalms 34:7. We worked on installing a new fence at the Christian Community Center out of which the SALT Outreach Ministry operates. Sometimes a fence is set around us to protect us and sometimes it’s set up to keep something out. In this case it was a combination since the fence would serve as visual enhancement to the facility while protecting the front of the building, and at the same time keeping the grass from being trampled upon.

It was a great experience to collaborate with SALT as they continue to provide shower facilities, laundry facilities, haircuts, mail services, hygiene items, and counseling for those living on the streets. Our team of volunteers was blessed to serve together and give back to the community in Orlando. Thank you ASI for making this project possible. We look forward to serving together again!
