El Suyatal, Honduras Mission Trip 2009

The Lord in His goodness provided an opportunity to organize a mission trip to El Suyatal, Honduras. Our team and I went before the church board to ask the church for approval and financial support in helping us cover mission trip expenses. We asked the board for an approval of $7,000 for the building project. It was a big number, but none the less the Lord impressed me to go big and that He would provide the means. The board members encouraged me to look for new ways to do fundraising as the church could only provide a small contribution.  Our mission trip was approved and we began planning and organizing our fundraising efforts. Time went by and slowly some donations were coming in. With 4 weeks left to our departure, we had only $2,200 dollars in our building fund.

My grandmother called me one Thursday and told me that she had a dream and that we would have all the money that we needed for this mission project. I thanked my grandmother and continued on. The following Sunday I was returning from work and needed to stop by my friend’s house to drop of his video equipment. As we were talking on the sidewalk, a vehicle drove up next to us. It was a family that had been coming from time to time to our church. We greeted each other and they asked me what I was doing. My friend told them that I was going on a mission trip in 3 weeks. They asked me more about the mission trip and said that they would be willing to help. I thanked them and they drove off to pick up their friends down the street. On their way back, they stopped and signaled for me to approach their vehicle. As I did, the wife handed me a check and told me that this money is for the mission trip. I took the check and put it in my pocket and thanked them for their support. My friend said to me, “Are you going to look to see how much it is?” As I opened the check, I couldn’t believe it. It was a check for $5,000.  Wow, Praise the Lord! I was so excited that with this contribution, we were now able to go on this mission trip as the building fund was full.

After leaving my friend’s house, I called my grandmother and told her what had happened. She was very happy for me. God heard our prayers and He answered accordingly. The following week at church service I was able to share with everyone that God has answered our prayers and we are going to Honduras! More people responded and I was thankful to the Lord for leading in such a miraculous way. When it was time for us to depart, we had raised $12,860 for our efforts in Honduras.

When we arrived in Honduras, we were picked up by the mission staff and took a short drive from the airport to the village of El Suyatal. Our work was great, but the Lord was with us every step of the way and we were able to build and provide the much needed school building to help the Central American Bible School with its needs. When we allow for God to increase and we decrease, He is able to work miracles in our life today. As we finished our portion of the building project, we calculated all the receipts, and to our amazement the total came to $12,850. We had $10 dollars left as we returned home from a great mission project. It is my prayer that we can consecrate our lives to the Lord and allow for Him to mold us and shape us to be His hands and feet at a time such as this. There are many miracles waiting to happen if we only consecrate ourselves to the Lord. Maranatha!
